When journalist Eddie Tayloe inherits six thousand dollars from his grandfather, he immediately quits his job to pursue his dream. He travels to New York in the hope of achieving success as a playwright. On the way, his car breaks down, but Perry Dunklin, who happens to be passing by, offers a solution. They travel on together, but due to a misunderstanding, Perry thinks Eddie is a wanted bandit. He reluctantly plays along. While Eddie tries to sell his plays, Perry tries to make a living in Brooklyn. But then Mike comes into their lives.
