On a beautiful summer day, Tania returns from Moscow to her dingy home village near the coal mines. Childhood sweetheart Misha initially keeps his enthusiasm to herself, but when she asks him to marry him, the ropes go wild. Not everyone is happy with cosmopolitan Tania. Grandpa says she's a "chain smoking" whore and mom can't help but cry. Then, after seven months, the miners' wages come in and the colorful community is plunged into a daze of vodka and music.
