Scoop plot
William Boot (Michael Maloney) is a columnist for the Daily Beast. His usual theme is the ups and downs of nature in the British countryside. One day he is approached by his publisher, Mr. Salter (Denholm Elliott). He is sent to Ishmaelia in Africa on an assignment. Salter believes this is what his boss, Lord Copper (Donald Pleasance), intended. However, he is confused with a distant cousin with the same last name. Afraid of losing his job, the timid journalist travels to Ishmaelia, who is at war. Before long, he finds himself embroiled in the danger and intrigue of war. While Boot is completely out of his element as a war correspondent, he stumbles upon a major scoop in the news.
