Sciopèn plot

A provincial town is setting up a large symphony orchestra for the benefit of cultural tourism. The ambitious wife of a music teacher makes an effort to get him a position as conductor. A childhood friend who has stagnated in his musical career is brought back from Milan to also submit his candidacy.
