Schrammeln plot

Johann Schrammel and his quartet in 19th century Vienna prefer to play 'serious' music than the folk tunes he has written. His brother Joseph Schrammel and guitarist Anton Strohmayer secretly play these melodies like street musicians and are discovered by folk singer Milli, who makes them famous. The brothers both fall in love with her and the quartet's end is imminent.
