It was a nice movie, which was also funny at times, but certainly no underpants humor. The film kept me captivated until the very end and I thought it was worth watching. The acting performances were good, just a shame we didn't see much more of Rachel Roberts (S1m0ne) after this film.

It is not a must-see film, but it is suitable for a quiet movie night.

Nice video.

Al Pacino clearly gets too little counterweight from Simone or from the 'real' actors, and is not slowed down by the direction either. Or would he deliberately play such a terribly exaggerated theatrical role here... to increase the contrast with the rather emotionless Rachel Roberts. Winona Ryder is already doing that, but a little more clearly. Catherine Keener then has a less symbolic role in comparison. I think.

But for the most part, it's really about the story. That is not so much a satire on the madness of Hollywood, but more an indictment of the nonsense that we as viewers and critics make of it. After all, the hero-worship that belongs to the movie world is what we cause - eagerly helped by Hollywood of course, but you have to remember where it starts.

However, that leads to quite a few funny situations. Maybe not a real thigh chatter, but really fun. And of course there is always an edge of laughing at yourself. But that's pretty fun every now and then.

Meh.

S1m0ne stands out in quite a few areas. It's not entirely clear to me exactly what it wants to be. Everything goes very easily, no one asks questions, it is nowhere sharp and when the roles are reversed towards the end, the calf has completely drowned.

Even Al Pacino - perhaps my favorite actor - is not very good at it. I easily place this role among his three worst. I have to say that the script doesn't help him - bad film choice - and that the rest of the cast doesn't offer the slightest resistance - a young Evan Rachel Wood is probably the best.

Andrew Niccol is a decent director, but he doesn't make much of this film. Special computer things to create Simone are also missing. A headline appears on a large computer screen and that's it... Fortunately for him, he got his wife from it, something that can be positive.
