Riley the Cop plot

"LOVE LAUGHS AT HOOSEGOW WHEN COP TURNS CUPID"

New York police officer James 'Aloysius' Riley is asked to pick up neighbor David 'Davy' Collins. After being falsely accused of theft, Davy avoids the city and now leads a sinful life in Berlin. Before long, Riley herself succumbs to the temptations of the German metropolis, in the form of the aristocratic Mary Coronelli. He therefore 'generously' allows Davy to stay longer in Berlin to win Mary's heart.
