Awesome.

Seen it a long time ago, but strangely enough it didn't really appeal to me anymore. Unjustly, because this is just a fantastic and hilarious piece of cinema. Maybe it's also a little homesick. Not that I have experienced such parties, but parties that get out of hand due to too many substances. Those days are behind me, but these kinds of films rekindle the nostalgia. Especially because of the clip-video-like film style and ditto music.

It's actually too short and the ending is a bit less, but it's still the best of its kind. 4.5*.

Fairly amusing.

Although it takes way too long before it really becomes fun. I thought the party itself was rather stale. Typical American college stuff with lots of drinks from plastic cups, silly people and bland music. On the other hand, it is already something that we have a film like this in this new millennium, we no longer have to refer to 80s muck ala Ferris Bueller.

It only gets really fun when the party completely derails and the film completely leaves the realism behind. Especially that guy with the flamethrower is hilarious. Unfortunately, this is already pretty close to the end. It does give the film an extra boost, but the ending is just a bit too short for a really high score.

Furthermore, cult of course, because with a film like this you can only expect that a few morons will want to try it themselves. In that respect, this is just a very clever and well-executed movie. The docu-style just fits very well here, making it all a bit more intense.

Nice for once, but it takes a little too long before it really gets fun. And then sadly it's done again.

3.0*

With these kinds of films I always feel a kind of vicarious shame, as if I am the main character who eventually has to confront his parents. In the end, the ending is satisfying in that regard: father actually thinks his son is cool, and at school he has suddenly turned from a nobody into a hero. Anyway, the course is solid, it goes as expected increasingly out of the clutches with the necessary humor in the form of stupid secondary characters. But the camera work in particular is strong: it is convincing as found footage, but in the meantime the camera movements are of high quality. A film without many pretensions, but which keeps its promises. 3.5*.
