Primos plot

Charming and romantic Brazilian coming-of-age film about two cousins Lucas and Mario. Lucas lives with his aunt and Mario comes to live there temporarily. The plot is not complicated, but still very entertaining and is about forgiveness, friendship, having fun and falling in love. Atmosphere is similar to other coming-of-age films such as Pihalla (2017), Being 17 (2016) or closer to home: Boys (2014) or Noordzee, Texas (2011). The girl who was given music lessons had quite an irritating role. And what a wonderful aunt Lucas has! A striking detail is that one of the leading actors is also one of the two directors. I thought it was a feel-good movie!

The story is about Lucas (Paulo Sousa), who was orphaned at a young age and lives with his super religious aunt Lourdes. Lucas is a somewhat withdrawn and almost lonely boy who is mainly concerned with the garden, providing music during his aunt Lourdes' religious gatherings, and giving piano lessons to Julia, a girl who is clearly deeply in love with Lucas. Lucas is not interested in Julia at all and unfortunately she is also completely amusical. (I find the role of Julia a terribly irritating role, the rest is quite nice).
Then his aunt tells him that his cousin (2nd or 3rd degree) Mario (Thiago Cazado) has just been released from prison and needs temporary shelter. He cannot go to his parents because the relationship with his father is seriously disturbed. Lourdes is going on some religious retreat while Mario will arrive and be present in the house. In other words, Lucas and Mario will have the empire alone.
Mario turns out to be a free spirit. Rebellious, unapologetic, adventurous, spontaneous, and wild. In short, a wonderfully tough boy. At first, the contact between Lucas and Mario is somewhat awkward. But alcohol removes all boundaries and obstacles between them. Despite their differences, these two boys appear to have one major similarity.
Apart from Julia, that annoying attention-getter, it is a wonderful film with beautiful male nudity that is not to be despised. The Brazilians are not nervous about a swinging penis or a nice round firm boy's buttocks.
Thiago Cazado, the actor who plays Mario, is also one of the two directors of this film. He directed it together with Mauro Carvalho.
