Antique lover Shimura is a poor samurai who now makes umbrellas. He tries to make ends meet, while his daughter Oharu beckons for handsome neighbor Reisaburo. He is willing to return the love, but when Shmiura receives a valuable gift, he wants to give his daughter to the local lawyer in exchange.
