Nobody's Kid plot
After the death of her parents, Mary Cary is placed in an orphanage because her grandfather rejects her due to the circumstances of her parents' marriage. At the orphanage, Mary is abused and humiliated, and when a nurse catches her playing ball with a young admirer outside the grounds, she is flogged. Later, she discovers that her grandfather was a well-known judge and her father was a British aristocrat. A letter to her uncle brings swift help, and after being rescued from the orphanage, she remains loyal to a young admirer.
