When Richard Calvert (Franchot Tone) visits Jane's father (Robert Benchley) (Deanna Durbin) about a scientific breakthrough and money for research, Jane falls hopelessly in love with him. She knows how to play it so that she can take him to the train station after his visit, and then drop him off at the station too late. So, what else is she to do but drive him all the way home? A heavy rain also ensures that she has to spend the night with him. When she returns to her village, still in her pajamas, everyone is curious about what is going on.
