It doesn't all have to be serious, arthouse or horror. Mr. Bones was apparently a big hit in South Africa when it came out, and the most watched film there until the sequel Mr. Bones 2 came out. It's a comedy about a white medicine man who ends up with a local tribe as a baby, and goes looking for the son of the tribe chief in a resort town. It's all very light, but often also very lame - expect a lot of poop and pee jokes (really a lot), slapstick scenarios where people crash into a tree or get a pig on their head, and of course an endless series of 'bushman comes to civilization and doesn't know how things work' type jokes. Of course there's also a romance thrown in, but hey, I don't want to be too cynical about this - maybe not my kind of comedy, but it's not really terrible either. At least there's a fair amount of variety in terms of setting, including a lot of African nature, and with zero brain there are still some jokes that do work. But sometimes it does feel a bit like the South African version of how I imagine Jandino Aspiraat's films to be.
