It's 1918. On her deathbed, the artist 'Dainty Doris' asks the entertainment team 'The Grand Street Comedy Four', consisting of Bert, Billy, Jimmy and Mischa, to take care of her young daughter Sally Brown. The four men become devoted fathers and even drop a unique booking due to Sally's health. In 1937, Sally performs with her four adoptive fathers and is in love with lawyer Tony Townsend. Bert, Billy, Jimmy and Mischa then pretend they were offered a Hollywood movie contract so that Sally wouldn't feel guilty leaving them to marry Tony.
