Megane plot
"I know what freedom is."
Taeko (Satomi Kobayashi), a young Japanese woman escapes the bustle of the city and flees to the island of Okinawa where she meets an eccentric group of people. Strangely enough, they all wear glasses. She finds out that the eccentrics spend all their time 'twilighting'. Since there is nothing else to do on the island, Taeko finally decides to give twilighting a chance. The days are filled with knitting, eating and a special way of morning exercises.

Sweet movie where little happens, and what it has to rely on is the atmosphere. The pace is very low and the viewer also experiences a bit what the main character experiences: sights? There are none here!
In short, you have to try to "twilight". Now I had some trouble with that, it all gets stretched out a bit. The audiovisual can serve as a means to keep the whole thing together. The soundtrack was very fitting in that respect; visually it was a bit ordinary.
Ultimately a bit too slow for me to really get a high score. 3*.

A film that is right up my alley, but just didn't quite manage to pull me in. It's great that the film has hardly any background music and therefore all the ambient sounds are clearly audible, you can really relax for a while and the holiday feeling really comes to the surface. But the images lack expressiveness (even though there are enough beautiful pictures in it), the characters left me rather cold and I didn't always find the pace that strong. 3.0*.

A fairly leisurely, meandering film about a woman who seeks peace and wants to de-stress, but is unable to do so due to circumstances. But the film did not convince me and did not pull me along.
The film is rather flat and the characters are hardly interesting. The plot also doesn't really work enough to keep you glued to the screen. A film that you have to experience because of its minimalistic nature. One that I will soon forget. Too bad.
