Mama Loves Papa plot
In 1905, Jessie Todd reads psychologist Basil Pew's book 'The Woman Behind the Man' and is inspired to teach her husband Wilbur the 'will to do'. After a chapter from the book, Jessie coaches Wilbur and tells him how to ask for a raise from his boss, Mr. Kirkwood, the owner of a furniture manufacturing company. Though Wilbur forgets his rehearsed speech, Kirkwood promotes him to oversee the Chicago factory. Jessie decides that Wilbur must now improve his appearance and sends him to work in an outfit befitting a distinguished gentleman.
