La Domenica della Buona Gente plot

An ex-football player in need of money places his hopes on a job as a coach for the Naples football team, which plays next Sunday. But Naples loses and the new-fangled trainer is out of work. That Sunday, a workman - who has just retired - is betting on football matches and hoping to win the 300,000 Lire he desperately needs: overjoyed when he thinks he has won first prize, but desperate when he knows comes that it is only the second prize, which earns him significantly less. Giulio, Maria's betrothed, also participates in the same game. He is unemployed and Maria hopes her uncle can give him a job, but Giulio prefers his football stadium. They both argue...
