Kurochka Ryaba plot
When the hen Riaba lays a golden egg, it becomes difficult for Assia to stick to her rule of not getting involved with capitalism. Assia lives in a small village with her chicken Riaba as the only company. Like the other villagers, she too is averse to perestroika, glasnost or Gorbachev. When wealthy Tchirkounov sets up a sawmill on the outskirts of the village and by the new standards of what was once the USSR, tensions quickly run high. Assia is determined to make sure that Tchirkounov's company disappears, but then -looking for Riaba- she finds a golden egg in her shed...
