Great director, that Pollock. He has made very fine and comical crime movies with a wonderful atmosphere. This one is no exception.

I found this one quite a bit less impressive than the Murder/Marple films by the same director. Still, I like Terry-Thomas just as much as Margaret Rutherford, but somehow this film just wasn't daring enough or something. Furthermore, the suspense was practically non-existent, and cinematically, the film is inferior to the Murder films. All in all, a somewhat disappointing score.

The director holds a special place in my heart thanks to Murder at the Gallop (1963) (and the three other films with the inimitable Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple) and Ten Little Indians (1965), and with the comedic talent of Terry-Thomas, Eric Sykes, and Lionel Jeffries, I might have expected something from this, but unfortunately, it remains merely entertaining rather than genuinely funny (let alone hilarious). Essentially a combination of a farce (Eric Sykes hiding under a bed only to suddenly see a well-formed bare female leg appear right in front of his nose) and a whodunit where the culprit's identity is a nice surprise at the end, but neither element is truly well-developed, and there isn't much for the female characters and the accompanying actresses to do. On the other hand, six installments of the successful Carry on film series had already been released in 1962, in which women are almost without exception either jealous castrators or seductresses with breasts, so Pollock and his scriptwriters deserve praise for not succumbing to the temptation of bad taste here. Ultimately, Kill or Cure is primarily innocent entertainment that I hoped would be *something* better, but it is certainly no ordeal.
