The story consists of two parts. In the first part, the students complain that reading the classical works of literature has little to do with modern life. Then they find themselves in a situation that is very similar to what they had to read before. In the second part of the film, the adventurous Vasechkin reads in Don Quixote. He convinces the more cautious Petrov that he has found a game they can play all their lives. They grab their bicycles, wave their umbrellas dangerously and attack a dangerous giant...that is, a windmill.
