Joanna plot
Joanna Manners, who works in James Grayson's exclusive women's clothing store, receives a mysterious $1 million inheritance. Her sudden wealth draws the attention of Frank Brandon, the bank president's nephew, but alienates Joanna from the affections of her fiancé, the architect John Wilmore. Through Brandon and Anthony Eggleson, who looks after her financial affairs, Joanna gets to know the worldly Carlotta de Silva. Carlotta, who is in love with Brandon, advises Joanna about living a life of luxury.
