"God bless our humble upper-middle-class high-rise co-op and keep it free from smut peddlers, militants, urban guerrillas and Greenwich Village liberals."

Vietnam veteran John Rubin returns to New York and rents a house in Greenwich. He starts with a film about the people who live across the street, which he secretly films. His obsession with filmmaking leads him to a radical Black Power group, who make him perform bizarre acts of terrorism.

Original but also incoherent and sometimes chaotic film. It all looks like a home movie. Especially interesting because of one of the first films by both Robert DeNiro and Brian DePalma. Nice to see a young DeNiro whose potential is already on display, especially in the scene where he auditions for a cop.

That Black Power sequence was particularly disturbing, put the reasonably funny rest of the film in a completely different context. 3.5*

Film with 2 faces. On the one hand a romantic, slightly mischievous comedy, on the other hand bitter seriousness with racist, terrorist aspects.

I found the moments in which the film could actually be enjoyed too few and I did not find a unity of thought in it either.
