Harlem 1918. In Sugar Ray's cafe and playhouse, a customer is murdered by a six-year-old boy. The victim refused to pay his debts and threatened Sugar Ray with a knife. After the incident, Ray takes the child home. After all, Quick has no parents or relatives. Twenty years later, Sugar Ray and Quick still team up and run a popular nightclub together. However, gangster boss Bugsy Calhoun wants a piece of the pie and sends corrupt cop Phil Cantone to attack the duo.

The biggest problem with this all-star comedy is that it never really gets funny anywhere. And that's a shame, because if you can't get a movie funny despite the presence of Pryor, Murphy, and Foxx, something isn't quite right. Nice for Murphy that he was finally allowed to work with his great idol, but unfortunately it is of little use to the viewer.
