Happy Single plot
Every man who comes close to Mollie is warned: 'this girl will break your heart'. The psychologist - who specializes in divorces - does not do permanents, does not believe in destiny and gets jitters with the term 'the one'. When she meets Otis in her favorite bar and has more jitters than she wants to admit, her natural reaction is to run away. But then Otis turns out to be the new colleague she has to get used to and avoiding is no longer an option. Mollie's friends at work try to convince her to give love a chance, but apparently face their toughest case yet. Will Mollie give up her beloved 'happy single' status or will she still run away?

I didn't know the main characters Jamie Grant and Juvat Westendorp, so it was refreshing to see some other players in such a Dutch romcom. It's just a shame that Westendorp is just a copy of all those smooth actors in other Dutch films and he and Grant really have zero chemistry. It is not credible for a moment that they like each other. The film has a few moments, but mostly remains a film with a mediocre plot, unpleasant events, annoying characters and feels like any rom-com. There is nothing inherent in it. Colleagues said it was nice to see Utrecht and the cathedral tower without scaffolding around it, but that was about it. 1.5*.

Cringing acting... especially at the end... can I also come and work for you and.... champagne..... Story line is thin and it's all already done. The best role by far Dick vd Toorn. Also the last sentence he utters at the end... could easily have been Wim T Schippers...

Amusing romcom of Dutch origin, in which Jamie Grant in particular stands out in a refreshing leading role. Director Anna van Keimpema and screenwriter Gerben Hetebrij do not make it easy for her with these rather stiff dialogues, but she still comes across as refreshingly natural, which makes her a lot more sympathetic, especially in the second half. In general, the film lacks some chemistry, surprise and/or originality, but Happy Single entertains more than decently and looks a bit better visually compared to its Dutch competition. Fine entertainment.
