Bland, boring, cliché and at times embarrassingly vulgar. Not because it's so shocking, but because it's so misplaced and flat. And then I'm normally also a supporter of fun innuendo about sex and relationship jokes, but this was downright raunchy. The many swearing cannons are also completely unnecessary.

All the associated clichés are not avoided. A distance relationship? phone sex. Gosh, what a joke. Not so.

In a romantic comedy you would expect that there is chemistry between the lead actors. I saw more chemistry between Garrett and his beer than between him and Erin. And to think that those two are also a couple in real life!

The many bad jokes clearly bring the level down. Lots of lust, severe lack, but mainly very boring and a long and just too often an annoying sit.

“I'm 31. I'm an intern. I'm going to get wasted.”

Actually, Christina Applegate is still the biggest plus (as is often the case), and given her very limited role, that says a lot about Going the Distance. Long and Barrymore are the protagonists we should be cheering for, but the fun and infatuation doesn't shine through. Long distance relationships rarely work, and so do movies about long distance relationships. But it does show that Applegate deserves better than this.
