Henry Moon is captured for committing a robbery. He discovers that there is a law in the small town where he was caught that any unmarried woman can save him from hanging by marrying him. Julia Tate seeks a man to help her with her mine and marries him. The sheriff makes it clear to him what the consequences will be if he leaves Julia. The two start, out of necessity, a relationship in which they both have nothing in common.
