The young man Friendless (Buster Keaton) finds it difficult to find a job in his village and he decides one day to try his luck in big New York. However, life in the big city is so overwhelming that he decides to seek refuge in the West. Chance leads him to Arizona where he starts working as a cowboy on a ranch. He does this extremely successfully in his own way, but whether others think so is the question.
