Freakier Friday plot
"Here we go again."
It’s been years since Anna and her mother Tess went through an identity crisis and temporarily switched bodies. Now Anna has a daughter of her own, Harper, and is about to marry Eric, who also has a teenage daughter from a previous relationship, Lily. When history repeats itself, Anna and Harper find themselves swapping bodies, and so do Tess and Lily. The foursome must try to take over each other’s lives without standing out.

A good film in which a mother and daughter, who swapped bodies years ago, find themselves in trouble again. An unexpected and belated sequel that's also unexpectedly more enjoyable than the first film. And as befits a good sequel, it's bigger than ever, with a double body-switch. The film moves along smoothly and gets funnier and better as it goes along. The cast clearly enjoys their roles.

Since everything gets a sequel, it's no wonder we're getting a new Freakie Friday. Especially when you discover via Wikipedia that it's actually the 7th film in the series, which began in the '70s. More of the same, with jokes about generational differences. But on the other hand, Lindsay Lohan is back. An underrated comedic actress who makes saccharine comedies like this one even better. Take her away, and the film collapses like a pudding.
It's not a masterpiece, but it does what it's supposed to. I laughed more in five minutes than I did with the entire Naked Gun remake. A film with laughter and tears, where the necessary one-liners thankfully work, and where the necessary (albeit predictable) emotions are also expressed. Are we waiting for yet another sequel? Absolutely not! But in the abundance of sequels (and variations) from Hollywood, I still had a good time with this one.

The problem is, they can't stand each other. A visit to Madame Jen [Vanessa Bayer] triggers a body-swap double involving Anna's mother, Tess [Jamie Lee Curtis]. The first hour is a series of bland, predictable situations. It picks up a bit after that, but the lackluster cast ruins any jokes or attempts at sentimentality. A disappointing follow-up to Freaky Friday (2003).
