Unfortunately I couldn't find too much humor in the film either. Vaughn played dramatically, tried to be funny, but that only irritated me. The story itself might have been worth it if the acting had been better. This is not recommended for all to watch during Christmas. This is only a disappointment.

Simple but quite funny.

A simple setup that quickly divides the film into four chapters. Couple who do not want any obligations are nevertheless obliged to visit their four families at Christmas (because the parents are all divorced). Ideal to warm up to family life!

Every family is like a mini-movie, it helps to keep it all a bit fun. When you get tired of one family, Vaughn and Witterspoon are already on their way to the next. It is predictable that it gets a bit more dramatic towards the end, luckily that segment doesn't last too long.

Humor is okay, although it is rarely really funny. Vaughn and Witterspoon don't make the most logical comedy duo, but they pull off their plan. As is often the case, it is the fringe characters who provide the most humor in these kinds of films. Personally being able to laugh a lot about the role of Favreau, doesn't suit him completely, but that's why it's extra funny.

It's not memorable, but a movie like this doesn't have to be. As a Christmas comedy it is reasonably successful, I didn't expect more from it.

The last Christmas movie of this year. I had read some mixed stories beforehand, but this really seemed like a fun comedy. The story offers possibilities and the two protagonists have already proven themselves of their abilities. Enough reasons to review Four Christmases this year.

Until the couple knocks on the first door, everything is still cake and egg. The opening scene sets the right tone (reminiscent of Phil and Claire's role-playing in Modern Family a few years later) and Vaughn's reaction to the airport camera is also nice. Then the film collapses like a plum pudding. I actually didn't have to laugh anymore and I even got irritated most of the time. The supporting roles seem to have to be as annoying as possible and they succeeded so well that I was soon done with them. Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn are great actors and they are visibly trying their best to make something of this, but to no avail. We are presented with four family visits, but none of them are worth it. It's also disappointing that those annoying supporting roles keep returning. It doesn't look good, let alone that it would make you laugh. Cringe-inducing scenes pile up (the fighting brothers, the stuff with the bouncy castle, the play, the board game...), so that the short running time still starts to feel long halfway through. As a viewer, you don't have to count on the 'Christmas feeling' with this film.

Actually, only the beginning and the end of the movie are fun. Despite the fact that the ending is rather rushed, a number of jokes were successfully recycled there. But yes, that is of course too scanty to recommend a film like this. Four Christmases is definitely one of the worst, if not the worst, Christmas movies I've seen. Quite a shame, because I don't think this would have had to be bad with a better script.
