"What are we hiding in our thoughts?"
Piero and Lara meet in a bar and plan their first date at her place. Both are ready to start dating again: Lara is a 35-year-old furniture restorer who has just ended a relationship with a married man and often falls for dead-end romances. Piero is a 50-year-old high school teacher, recently divorced with joint custody of his young daughter, and still bearing the scars of past heartbreaks. The two are guided by their respective personalities: Piero listens to the advice of the rational professor, the romantic Romeo, the passionate Eros and the disillusioned Valium. Lara is guided by the uncompromising Alfa, the seductive Trilli, the wild Scheggia and the dreamy Giulietta.

A tiresome film: the editing department clearly worked overtime. The thoughts of the two main characters are depicted by four people each, so a total of 2x4 plus the lady and gentleman in question makes a total of 10. The images and speech change rapidly. Not a film for relaxation. Unfortunately, there's not enough depth to the thoughts of the lady and gentleman. A shame, because it would have made it all more interesting. A narrow, very narrow pass. Because it's Italian...

Superficiality is key, and originality is lacking in this rom-com about the first date of divorced father Piero [Edoardo Leo] with Lara [Pilar Fogliati], who doesn't want to fall for another unavailable man. Their words and actions are driven by four parts of their personalities (four men for Piero, four women for Lara) who evaluate everything and argue about what should happen next. The concept is, of course, borrowed from Inside Out, but developed to appeal to a less demanding, broad, and conservative audience. A huge success in its home country, but that doesn't always guarantee quality.

A really fun film. Maybe I'm not being critical enough because it's Italian. It took me a while to get used to all those characters representing the voices in the main characters' heads. And perhaps full of clichés, but that makes it relatable and fun, and sometimes very funny. I even laughed out loud at one point. It's all a bit lighthearted, but that doesn't hurt every now and then.
Whatever you think, this film has been thoughtfully crafted and superbly edited. A generous 7 out of 10.
