Feminist and independent artist Helen Bauer is convinced that marriage is the ruin of love. Helen lives with the ad designer Don Peterson, who convinces Helen to marry him. When the flame quickly goes out, Don then begins a relationship with his client Peggy Smith and Helen has an affair with Don's closest competitor Nick Malvyn.
