In the run-up to Christmas, a family completely misses the mark by trying to “do it right”. Brechtje, the mother of the family, gets canceled but doesn’t understand why. Her husband, Martijn, falls in love with a younger colleague: but true love can’t be denied. Justus, the son-in-law, gets lost on a Don Quixotesque quest for masculinity. While daughter Jos tries to change the world with her tolerance. All this just before Christmas dinner…

A bit of an 'anti-Love Actually' film, but in a mini format. That's why it seemed a bit like a copy of American cousins. Anyway, a nice film, light and something different from the swooning and exaggerated fuss that Dutch films often are. Above average, but whether you're really going to watch this every year, I don't think so.

Pretty okay. One character is nicer and more interesting than the other and some are unstoppably annoying (the woke daughter for example or the gen-z son) and not every moment is equally successful but in general the sketches work quite well. Perhaps the film lasts a bit too long and the themes and caricatures are a bit too much on top (although the slightly ironic narrator's voice of Paul de Leeuw does lighten that a bit) to really convince but on the whole this is an entertaining thing with sometimes quite recognizable things between the caricatures. I think the film could have been better by perhaps not laying it all on so thick. Partly due to the actors who are good in their roles and also clearly enjoy playing them certainly and sufficiently. 3.0*.

We sat down to watch the movie last night and watched it all the way through...
A film that might as well not have been made that could also have been a title for this non-comedy.
Typical Dutch film, almost every combination of people having sex with each other has been seen.
An old man with a young lady,
a couple where the man is underground but the woman wants a macho man, then that's what he becomes?
a lesbian couple having a threesome with a young man who wants a dildo in his anus...
The director probably stuck in the 80s because back then we were still shocked by these kinds of scenes. Now you think, typically Dutch.
and in the end we just move on with life.
but a comedy? let me put it this way, I didn't even grin.
