Der Ochse von Kulm plot

On his way to his wedding, Alois Tipfele is arrested for attacking the occupying forces "by means of his oxen". A quick court sentences him to 30 days in prison. But after a few minutes Alois is asked to take his oxen to the prison yard. This puts the law-abiding office man of the city of Kulm in serious trouble. After all, it is nowhere written what to do with an ox, when the owner is locked up and can prove that he has no family to take care of the animals in his absence. But the Bavarian bureaucrats find an ingenious solution: the prisoner Tipfele is added to the outdoor work department as animal sitter Tipfele.
