Der Experte plot
Willi Schulze is a car mechanic who runs a garage together with Paul who ran away from the orphanage. While testing a car, Willi finds out that the brakes aren't working very well. A fatal accident can just be prevented. Schulze tries to hitchhike home. He is picked up by the American election expert Willy Schneider. Together they also have an accident and they lose their memory. The police mistake Schulze for the election expert and he quickly becomes the linchpin in a tough election campaign.
