Day Dreams plot
A young man wants to marry his sweetheart, but her father disapproves of him. He leaves for the big city to prove he can be successful and build a fortune. He has all kinds of jobs, about which he writes to his beloved. She envisions him in various successful positions, but the reality is different.

I wonder to what extent the version of Daydreams that can be found today is actually still what Buster Keaton had in mind at the time. A large part of the short film has been lost and on the basis of photos and new intertitles an attempt is made to form it all into a beautiful whole. So a bit of cutting and pasting and you can feel it. The premise with Keaton doing all kinds of jobs is very nice (and there's a very nice large-scale police chase and Keaton in the theater is also very cool) but it doesn't really all flow together smoothly. Practically every version that can be found has a running time of around 22 minutes, although a scene with Keaton as a policeman seems to have been found and it would have been added as an extra on a Kino DVD. Hopefully the full version will also float to the surface, maybe it will feel like a better whole. Just for Keaton in the waterwheel this is worth seeing by the way.

Very funny how Keaton takes all kinds of jobs that are far below what he writes his sweetheart.
He should not worry about one thing afterwards: the gun is supplied to him free and willingly.
Good Keaton comedy where when I saw yet another army of policemen in pursuit, I thought for a moment that candidate extras were given enough opportunities to play that role again in the many comedies...
