The place of performance is the capital of Estonia, which has only just become independent. The national gold deposit held in France since World War II is being brought back under the watchful eye of the media and an enthusiastic population. A gang of almost caricatured, but no less cruel, gangsters prepare to steal Estonian treasure. They force the electrician Toivo to help them cut power all over Tallinn so they can strike out in the dark. Toivo is poor and his wife Maria is about to give birth to their first child. He could use some extra money and seems to be giving in. But as the story progresses, he turns into a true hero with the help of his neighbor boy...
