Darbuján a Pandrhola plot
Markýtka and Kuba Dařbuján have their twelfth child. Kuba is a hardworking miner, but there is no money in the family. Kuba seeks a good godfather for his newborn, but rejects God and the Devil; they are both unjust after all. Kuba chooses the man with the scythe - Death - as the child's godfather. As a thank you, Kuba receives a healing gift. Kuba now calls himself a doctor and resigns from his old job. At first he is laughed at, but then he heals the paralyzed Matěj.
