Eddie Murphy brings his charm to the film, but it unfortunately fails due to excessive diversification. The portrayal of white characters as villains, annoying or competitive neighbors, and an overly decadent host feels overdone, diminishing the overall quality of the film.

Initially seen in the 'sneak' of Prime Video, but the effects were not yet finished. Special to see, but it ultimately has no influence on the final assessment. I saw it briefly with the kids when it was finished, but it is the actors and the atmosphere that make the film.

It's not a high-flyer, and doesn't make the list of the better Christmas films (including Home Alone and Love Actually), but it was a good watch. Murphy tried to make something of it, but I missed the charm and energy he used to put into his films. Fine for once (or twice in my case) around Christmas, but that's about it.

I had a little too high expectations.

I was curious about this film with Eddie Murphy. Never really been a fan of him (too high ADHD level), but he has calmed down and really didn't do too badly. You can also say that he has lost his energy. Depends on your perspective. The other actors are all B-movie quality. The script is original, it must be said, but that doesn't automatically make it a good script. It's too far-fetched and too unclear. Furthermore, there is a lot of over-the-top acting, with the female presenter as a dramatic low point. No highlights in the soundtrack or camera work, but I didn't expect that either.

Doesn't the film do anything right? Yes: although the film is not convincing, the film has some really nice moments. Often subtle and it's all in the dialogues. References to things like the Matrix and the old Spaghetti Westerns, dry wit. Yes, for me the power really lies in the dialogues. And that makes this - quite a bland and childish film - stand out above the average Hallmark production. The film was clearly made with more love.

To look? I think it is most successful as a family film with children: there is something for everyone to enjoy, but no one will be blown away. But even if you are tired of the sappy Hallmark movies, are up for some humor and can accept that there are also weak/boring parts in the film, then it is not a bad choice. There simply aren't that many good Christmas films being made. 2 stars and then - as always - I am half to a whole star more generous because it is a Christmas film.
