Al Roberts writes a gossip column for the Daily Express. He reports about everything and everyone, as long as he is rewarded. He clashes with a mobster named Goebel, who sends Frankie to "chat" with Al for a while. Since Al has recorded Frankie's confession, he becomes his own bodyguard and source of information. Al has always had a problem with the tearjerker Bunny Harmon, because he hates those kinds of singers.
