Pappy, the caretaker of the Farmdale orphanage, is allocating $5,000 from the taxpayer to enroll his children in a 4-H project that could make the orphanage self-sufficient. This enrages Hiram Crabtree and Sam Spitz as they profit from the sale of supplies to the orphanage and therefore do not want it to become self-sufficient. Crabtree and Spitz therefore accuse Pappy of embezzlement and demand that he pay back the money immediately. Just when things start to look bad for Pappy, he learns he's inherited a nightclub and heads to town to investigate.
