"IT'S A THREE RING RUCKUS!"
American Deke Caswell is an itinerant gambler and swindler with a philosophical aptitude. When he arrives in a small town in the south, Deke is mistaken for the town's new deacon. Deke decides to play the role of a deacon in hopes of helping the locals get rid of their hard-earned dollars. But soon Deke feels remorse, partly because of his good contacts with the young truck driver Johnny Sloan and the hitchhiker Phyllis, who have a secret relationship that is not accepted by the church.
