Lame.

But that's what these parodies are all about. Never really got much of it, never seen a movie of the whole Scary Movie, yet my expectations were in the right direction.

A lot (and really a lot) of jokes that miss the mark. And then in between a few jokes that have succeeded. Hit & miss at its best, in which the misses are somewhat camouflaged by a clearly enjoying Wayans and nice bit parts by Swardson and Koechner.

The first Paranormal Activities is an easy target (and so lame that it's actually already an unintentional parody of horror), the "fake-cam" thing is not exactly consistent and the film also looks easy and cheap, but knows left and right the film has its moments, so it is not all the time telling the time.

In the style of Scary Movie (2000) of which half Wayans has already been a part.

Together with Rick Alvarez, he was responsible for this largely bland parody of well-known films. Movies like Paranormal Activity (2007), The Devil Inside ( 2012), The Exorcist (1973) and The Blair Witch Project (1999) are being ridiculed. If you're familiar with Wayans humor, you already know what to expect. Despite a few funny jokes, it remains completely salt-free. You have to be a real enthusiast to appreciate this kind of shit-and-pee humor. The film won 1 prize, and was nominated 1 time. However, it was not a prize and nomination to be proud of. Marlon Wayans and Essence Atkins previously appeared in Dance Flick (2009). Unlike this bad bunch, "A Haunted House " still manages to stay pretty fun.

revision.

I actually don't know what I was thinking when I put this movie on the review list. I had also reviewed the whole series of Scary Movie movies and I liked some of them better, and I think I had the same hopes with these parody movies. After all, Wayans himself plays a part in it again, but in terms of performance it remains something completely different.

Especially since this film takes a different approach to comedy. Both series have a pretty stupid and clumsy form of humor, but with this film it's never really funny. Mainly because it lacks the dryness and timing. Here it is mainly the actors who have to deliver the lines funny, but it rarely succeeds.

Visually not much to say because there is not much of it. It's not really an area that Tiddes seemed interested in and it shows. It's all on the simple side. Cheap effects, but mainly actors who do their own thing and that's what the film has to rely on. Wayans is still quite enthusiastic about it and some supporting roles have their moments, but they do not hold up in a film that lasts 86 minutes.

Very funny at times, but mostly sad. Parody films do need a bit of passion to be good, but this film seemed to be mainly about a group of friends who wanted to play some pranks. Horror is more of a background here, because it is nowhere exciting, threatening or scary. Of course that was to be expected, but the way the film handles its inspiration is mostly lazy.
