A California Romance plot

In 19th-century California, Patricio and Dolores are in love, but they are torn apart by politics. He believes California should join the United States, while she believes it should remain part of Mexico. Convinced that Patricio is a coward and a traitor, she becomes engaged to Juan Diego, an officer in the Mexican army. However, Juan harbors a dark secret Dolores is unaware of, one that will not only affect their relationship but also endanger all of California.
