The emancipated German-Turkish Lale Demirkan grew up with both German and Turkish culture. At the university she studies German, but at home as a Muslim she is an example as a daughter. Her father Cengiz is sympathetic, but at the same time very traditional. However, Lale becomes entangled between tradition and modern customs, leading her to a conflict of conscience. For example, her father is involved in bringing Turkish 'import brides' to Germany for Turkish men. Lala wants to help the women to learn the German 300-word test. This is the only way they can obtain a residence permit.
