The Last of the Ryans plot

In 1965, Ronald Ryan tries to escape from Pentridge Prison in Coburg, Australia. A prison guard is killed in the attempt. During a controversial trial, Ryan is found guilty of murder. That automatically means the death penalty, but the previous 35 death sentences had all not been carried out in Australia.
