White Richard Loving (Timothy Hutton) and black Mildred Jeter (Lela Rochon) lived together as children in harmony. Now, in the 1960s, their relationship has evolved into a sexual one, which, to their amazement, is not accepted by society. After the threat of prison, they move, but they don't let it go.
