In 1905, Bertha von Suttner became the first woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. A startling decision by the Nobel Committee with regard to an equally remarkable woman, who was completely averse to convention and did not mince words. She was born Countess Kinsky and went on to work as Alfred Nobel's secretary. The two were soul mates but their ways parted when Bertha ran off with Baron von Suttner. For Alfred Nobel, however, Bertha remained the love of his life.
