Genji is a young aristocrat at the Imperial Court. As a three-year-old child, he lost his mother and grew up without ever knowing her unconditional warmth. As a young man, he searches for an unattainable ideal in successive tragic love affairs. His relationships seem doomed to fail, overshadowed by the looming dark cloud that hangs over his fate.
