In February 2002, Australian radio reporter Jacqueline Arias interviewed juvenile asylum seekers who had been detained off the Australian coast for at least 12 months by telephone. The children shared their situation with resignation: "Because this country is good out here, but not in this camp. It's like we were sent to prison. Do you know the prison? That's how it is here!"
