Beauty and the Beast plot

Monsieur Renard, a wealthy man in 17th-century France, is willing to do business with his cousin Du Bois, a jeweler who has seen his business decline since he was robbed. Renard's only condition is that his youngest daughter Belle marries him. When Monsieur Du Bois is back on a business trip, he is again ambushed and taken to a castle to recover from his wounds. Du Bois picks a rose from the garden of the mysterious owner of the castle, the Beast. He lets Du Bois go alone when his daughter Belle takes his place.
